In 2011, Kristian Tapaninaho, the mind behind Ooni (formerly Uuni), embarked on a quest for the perfect homemade pizza. Despite his culinary skills, he couldn't achieve the wood-fired flavor he craved using conventional ovens. Frustrated by the expensive and non-portable options available, Kristian decided to take matters into his own hands. Although not an inventor or engineer, his passion and determination led him to design an affordable and portable wood-fired pizza oven. Ooni, meaning 'oven' in Finnish, was born from Kristian's innovative spirit and a backyard journey of sketches, prototypes, and testing.
